I Who Have Never Known Men
Deep underground, thirty-nine women are kept in isolation in a cage. Above ground, a world awaits. Has it been abandoned? Devastated by a virus? Watched over by guards, the women have no memory of how they got there, no notion of time, and only vague recollection of their lives before. But, as the burn of electric light merges day into night and numberless years pass, a young girl – the fortieth prisoner – sits alone an outcast in the corner. Soon she will show herself to be the key to the others’ escape and survival in the strange world that awaits them above ground. The woman who will never know men.
Hound of the Baskervilles
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found mysteriously dead in the grounds of Baskerville Hall, everyone remembers the legend of the monstrous creature that haunts the moor. The great detective Sherlock Holmes knows that there must be a more rational explanation, but the difficulty is to find it before the hellhound finds him.
Welcome to the Tired Mums Book Club. A group of friends with offspring committed to the gargantuan task of reading a minimum of 6 WHOLE BOOKS in a year. We meet every 8 weeks in a local (to Woodford) pub to discuss a book. You will have 8 weeks to read only one book, with an optionally secondary book too for those with the time. It’s low commitment: if you don’t turn up, no one will care – but when you do, you’ll come away feeling refreshed on the tonic of good company and high-brow discussion of literary delights that we have all read or half-read and, most likely, meandering conversation about our child’s bowel habits. We started as Mum pals who needed some reading accountability but welcome anyone to join us – offspring or otherwise.
