Table For Two

Six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood.

The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.
The novella, “Eve in Hollywood”, told from seven points of view, describes how one of Towles’s most beloved characters, the indomitable Evelyn Ross from Rules of Civility, crafts a new future for herself―and others―in a noirish tale that takes us through the movie sets, bungalows, and dive bars of 1930s Los Angeles.

Welcome to the Tired Mums Book Club. A group of friends with offspring committed to the gargantuan task of reading 6 WHOLE BOOKS in a year. We meet every 8 weeks in a local (to Woodford) pub to discuss a book. You will have 8 weeks to read only one book. It’s low commitment: if you don’t turn up, no one will care – but when you do, you’ll come away feeling refreshed on the tonic of good company and high-brow discussion of literary delights that we have all read or half-read and, most likely, meandering conversation about our child’s bowel habits. We started as Mum pals who needed some reading accountability but welcome anyone to join us – offspring or otherwise.
